Firefighter Recruitment

We recruit firefighters from all walks of life. No prior firefighting experience is needed β€” we provide world-class training.

Submit Application

Complete the online application form during an open recruitment round. Ensure you meet the basic eligibility criteria before applying.

Written & Physical Tests

Sit aptitude and situational judgement tests, followed by a Job-Related Physical Assessment (JRPA).

Interview

Attend a structured interview with a FRNSW assessment panel to demonstrate your values and suitability.

Pre-employment Checks

Complete medical assessment, psychological evaluation, background checks and references.

Recruit Course

Successful candidates complete the 17-week Recruit Firefighter course at the FRNSW Academy in Orchard Hills.

Station Posting

Graduate and commence work as a qualified firefighter at a fire station across NSW.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

  • Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Hold a current Class C (car) driver licence
  • Minimum 18 years of age at time of appointment
  • Fit to undertake physically demanding work
  • No criminal history that would preclude employment
  • Willingness to work shifts including nights and weekends
